The
Leader of New Art. Article by Yauhen Shunejka, art historian
Aliaksandr Pushkin is a legend in the generation
of young Belarusan artists. He has chosen a difficult way to reveal the
truth in art, which is not easy to say and which demands suffering. But
this truth is connected with consciousness, with the responsibility of
a person for his folk, for our native land and its difficult fate. It
is worth the greatest sacrifices, and Aliaksandr Pushkin is an example
of it. The example of honest and brave sacrifice.
He became the first among the revivalists of our native culture because
he was the first who experienced the scoffing of uneducated stooges of
the regime and moral insults of journalists who could set the most dirty
ideological ideas into the mass consciousness. His moral spirit and humanistic
moral means turned out to be stronger than the oppression of “inquisitors”
who desired to play the role of judges for the artist.
Aliaksandr Pushkin is an artist who can handle any topics and new tasks.
He revealed himself as a gifted person, who has the immortal spirit of
national culture, very early – yet in the Art College. He was improving
his artistic skills with unbelievable pace, soon surpassing not only his
mates but also his more experienced colleagues. In his works he combined
high professionalism, spiritual honesty and desire for novelty. This could
be seen during his republican exhibitions, his happening on 71st anniversary
of Belarusan People’s Republic (which became an artistic and political
sensation) and his not less sensational diploma work – the wall-painting
“Parnat” in his Art College, dedicated to the history of Belarusan culture.
It is unanimously considered as a high achievement of modern Belarusan
monumental art.
The professionalism of the young artist is now of no doubt. We are waiting
for every new work of his as for the new truth, new discovery anticipating
civil and cultural changes. We can believe him, because the artist has
never lied, never looked for an easier way, and is not going to simply
enjoy the fame.
His first personal exhibition is a concentration of society’s problems,
concerns, hopes, which essence can be shown only through art. But to do
this, new artistic ways of expression are needed. Here we see synthetic
combination of both well-known and unknown methods, which exactly reveal
the essence of the problems, concerning the author.
His exhibition of artifacts in the wide context of new declarative art
(which appeared lately together with cultural and political renaissance)
includes painting, installations, photo documents, videoart, performance,
poster graphics and other branches of modern art. The exhibition is dedicated
to the 73rd anniversary of Belarusan People’s Republic.
Let this exhibition of the artist with honest consciousness and belief
in his sacrificing mission be the new art sensation, which will boost
the spiritual renaissance of Belarusan nation and its culture.
